We are looking forward to welcoming candidates with an interest in African cultural issues, who are ready to interact with people from all corners of the globe on a lovely campus of a university, recognised worldwide for its strong emphasis in the field of African Studies.
New students enter the programme in the winter semester (October of each year); the application deadline for international students is generally 15 July.

Applicants to the MA programme should have an academic background in African Linguistics, African Literatures, Media in Africa, Curational Studies, or a related discipline. You require at least a Bachelor grade point average of 2.5 or better (according to the German grading scale). Please check below which regulations apply to you and how to apply to the MA programme:

This year, the following online English certificates are also sufficient for the admission processes:
- Sekundarschulzeugnisse und Bachelorabschlüsse aus Ländern, in denen Amts- und Bildungssprache Englisch ist, reichen als Englischnachweis aus, sowie
- TOEFL iBT und Special Home Edition ab einer Punktzahl von 72 und
- IELTS Academic und Indicator ab einer Punktzahl von 5.5 und
- Cambridge FCE certificate ab Punktzahl 160 bzw. Note C oder besser
- deutsche Abizeugnisse, wenn dort Englischkenntnisse mindestens auf Niveau B2 bescheinigt werden
